Description
Composite image of stages of the moon over the sun during the annular solar eclipse, on October 14, 2023. We had driven to the NW corner of New Mexico for the event. Initially we had intended to photograph this phenomenon at Shiprock, but it turned out to be too difficult, due to the necessity of a long hike, so we chose a somewhat similar but smaller rock outcropping just off the highway instead.
This image is a composite of many images. It shows various stages of the moon crossing in front of the sun. I superimposed a somewhat dark image of the moon in front of all stages to show its path in front of the sun. It's fascinating to me that their paths, to us on Earth, appear to cross at almost the same speed and the arcs look so very similar.
