Description
I was going for a walk in my neighborhood when I spotted a Barn Swallow flying through a tunnel under the road. I looked up and right there was a nest, with four little heads, all patiently waiting for mom or dad to bring food! And sure enough, there came a parent and all four little beaks popped open into huge bright targets for mom or dad to drop food into. Luckily I had my camera with me!
I replaced the background in this shot, since the original tunnel background was not pleasant, and I thought this background texture shows well some of the areas in which a barn swallow might fly.
A familiar little bird in rural areas and semi-open country, the Barn Swallow gracefully skims low over meadows, water and farmyards looking for insects to eat, or perches on wires. During the breeding season, Barn Swallows fly down to pick up mud and grass for nesting materials. Their mud nests are often tucked under the eaves of barns, stables, or bridges, or other structures. You can find Barn Swallows across most of North America, as well as Europe and Asia, wintering to southern Africa and South America.
