Description
A Wood Duck couple flies across the pond, to join a group of their friends on the far end. In October, these ducks have finished molting and look their best. These handsome wood ducks typically stay in Colorado year round -- I feel lucky that we have a location where I can usually find them! Even though the female is not as beautiful as the male, as is almost always the case with birds to protect them and their babies in spring, wood duck females are quite handsome in their own way.
From Cornell: "These birds live in wooded swamps, where they nest in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches."
Photo taken on October 14, 2019, in Littleton, Colorado

Thank you so much, William! FYI, I posted the wrong date (copied some of the other info from a previous pic and accidentally included the date). This pic was actually taken yesterday, October 15 2019.
