Description
Close-up of a Pinto horse out on the prairie in Northwest Colorado.
I stopped the car and got out to take some photos, and right away several of these beautiful horses started walking towards me. Not only these, but at least twenty of them surrounded me and my car; it was amazing, and I wished so badly that I had some carrots or something tasty to feed them! They have the most beautiful soft, gentle eyes, with those long lashes...
A pinto horse refers to a horse that has a coat consisting of large patches of white and any other color. In America, the Pinto is regarded as a proper breed. In the American west, the Pinto has traditionally been regarded as a horse the American Indian favored as a war horse since its coloring provided a natural camouflage, however, the Pinto horse was actually introduced to North America by European explorers, chiefly those from Spain, bringing their Barb stock that had been crossed with native European stock years before. Over time, the pinto bred with the wild Mustang, resulting in the Western-bred horse we are familiar with today.
