Description

These little House Finches were a joy to watch, as they flitted around the cacti together, squabbling and perhaps enjoying each others' company too. I believe the one sitting on the cactus is a baby that just recently fledged and may still want to be fed, and the one flying might be his dad. I had gone to Arizona to photograph birds, and even though I get house finches at my feeders at home, these two were so cute that I was drawn to photographing them!


From Cornell Labs: "The House Finch is a recent introduction from western into eastern North America (and Hawaii), but it has received a warmer reception than other arrivals like the European Starling and House Sparrow. That’s partly due to the cheerful red head and breast of males, and to the bird’s long, twittering song, which can now be heard in most of the neighborhoods of the continent. If you haven’t seen one recently, chances are you can find one at the next bird feeder you come across."
