Description
A pair of House Wrens are making use of a nesting box I have attached to the house on my back deck, so every day the male sings his heart out nearby, with a beautiful, rich, bubbly song. He flits from the deck railing to the neighbor's fence to a tree branch, and also helps his sweetie bring in insects or other tasty treats for the babies. The two of them are very busy flying in and out of the box all day long.
The House Wren was named long ago for its tendency to nest around human homes or in birdhouses, and they are fierce competitors for nest holes. The House Wren is very active and inquisitive, bouncing about with its short tail held up in the air, pausing to sing a rich effervescent song. Its song is long and complex, and both males and females sing. Various forms of this wren are found from central Canada to southern South America.
