Description
I don't usually post photos of birds from the back, but I love the way this image came out -- the wing position, the colors, and even that the head is not visible, which makes for a more abstract image.
There were about a hundred mallards all hanging out in a parking lot; I think it was warm there in the sun in the winter, and I got this shot as one of them decided to leave and head out to the lake.
Perhaps the most familiar of all ducks, Mallards occur throughout North America and Eurasia in ponds and parks as well as wilder wetlands and estuaries. They are ancestors of most strains of domesticated ducks; the ancestral wild Mallard is a trim, elegant, wary, fast-flying bird. The male’s beautiful green head, gray flanks, and black tail-curl make it the most easily identified duck. Mallards have long been hunted, and almost all domestic ducks come from this species.
Photo taken on February 24, 2019, in Littleton, Colorado.
