Description
This trio of Mallards spent a long time preening and preening at the edge of a pond. I think the result was quite beautiful, don't you?
Perhaps the most familiar of all ducks, Mallards occur throughout North America and Eurasia in ponds and parks as well as wilder wetlands and estuaries. They are ancestors of most strains of domesticated ducks; the ancestral wild Mallard is a trim, elegant, wary, fast-flying bird. Mallards have long been hunted, and almost all domestic ducks come from this species.
