Description
It was still dark in the very early morning, but already the Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) were taking off from the lake. Because it was still quite dark, I was not able to get a fast shutter speed, so decided to pan some shots with a slow shutter, which resulted in a motion blur and a feeling of speed. I love this shot, which looks as though the crane is gracefully skating on the ice, showing off her beauty and style!
Thousands of Sandhill Cranes winter over at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico, along with thousands of Snow Geese. These tall cranes are so beautiful and elegant, and group together in great numbers in the fields, lakes and sky, filling the air with their amazing distinctive magical rolling cries.
Photo taken on January 7, 2019, at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

Good morning to beautiful Judi, If I wanted to pay you a great compliment, I would have to say you're the David Attenborough of Colorado. Do you know who he is? Sir David Frederick Attenborough is a British natural historian and broadcaster. His BBC documentaries about the natural world, espeically animals, are world-famous and legendary. You tell great stories, heart-warming, beautiful stories through your images of our feathered and 4-legged friends. The world is a much better place because you're in it. Keep up the superb job.
Judi Dressler replied:
Thank you so much, Bijan! :) I certainly am familiar with David Attenborough; my favorite commentator in wildlife documentaries. A good friend of mine loves to quote him, one of his favorite quotes being, "But the female, she is not impressed" (this about a female bird after watching the male's display); and he invariably laughs so hard. So I am very complimented by your kind comment; thank you so much. 💜
