Description
Artsy composite image of Raven flying in lightning storm, which evokes a Halloween mood of mystery and black magic. "Once upon a midnight dreary..." (quote from Edgar Allan Poe poem).
The image is of a Common Raven photograph merged with a textured lightning background.
In reality, birds look for cover in a storm, and will not be flying about. This Common Raven flew out of a tree when a couple of eagles came flying in -- I guess s/he felt it was getting too crowded -- and I managed to get the shot.
Ravens, larger than crows but in the same family of Corvids, are among the smartest of all birds, gaining a reputation for solving ever more complicated problems invented by scientists. They are quite large, the size of a small hawk. The Common Raven is an intriguing bird, and has accompanied people around the Northern Hemisphere for centuries, following their wagons, hunting parties and backpacking groups in hopes of a quick meal. These big, black birds thrive among humans, although they prefer slightly higher altitudes, and can be seen flying with easy, flowing wingbeats and filling the air with an echoing croak.
Photo of Raven taken on December 3rd, 2018, in Colorado.
