Description
I was delighted to see this baby Canada Goose peeking out from momma's feathers! It made me think of a human child who's been told to take a nap, but instead climbs out of bed and sneaks half way down the stairs to watch the activity.
The big, black-necked Canada Goose with its signature white chinstrap mark is a familiar and widespread bird of fields and parks. Thousands of “honkers” migrate north and south each year, filling the sky with long V-formations. Once considered a symbol of wilderness, this goose has adapted well to civilization, nesting around park ponds and golf courses; in a few places, it has even become something of a nuisance. Local forms vary greatly in size, and the smallest ones are now regarded as a separate species, Cackling Goose.
