Description
This American Robin did not fly away when I slid open the back door ready to go out; instead he remained where he was, just looking at me, and he even allowed me to grab my camera and take some pictures! I find Robins to be the most calm birds that come to my back deck.
It was a cold morning of 14 degrees fahrenheit, but the water in the bird bath was at a "toasty" 32 degrees, thanks to a built in heater which keeps the water from freezing -- hence the sauna effect. I love the way the steam swirls around, ensconcing the robin in the beautiful golden light of early morning sun.
American Robins are commonly seen on lawns across North America, where you may see them tugging earthworms out of the ground. The Robin's rich, cheery song is among the earliest heard at dawn in spring and summer, often beginning just before first light. Robins often nest on house porches and windowsills, but they are equally at home in wilder areas, including mountain forests and Alaskan wilderness. Because they are so familiar and are seen around communities where humans live, they can serve as an early warning of environmental problems, such as overuse of pesticides.

What a sweet, and very unique shot, Judi! Love how the golden morning light is illuminating the steam, and the head-back pose of the robin, which is obviously enjoying itself. L/F

Thank you so much, Wes. I think he was enjoying himself. He sat there for a long time, drinking his fill. :)
