Who doesn't love hearing the song of the Meadowlark? When I first posted this photo on Facebook, I wrote this Haiku to go with it:
"In that moment, of
hearing the Meadowlark sing
all cares fall away."
A good friend of mine had that haiku translated into Japanese by the father of a friend of his, and the result is what you see on the image. The translation is not exact but is in the spirit of the Huiku.
From Cornell: "Male Western Meadowlarks have a complex, two-phrase “primary” song that begins with 1–6 pure whistles and descends to a series of 1–5 gurgling warbles. Males develop a repertoire of up to a dozen songs, and may switch the songs they sing in response to an intruder. When chasing competing males or responsive females, male Western Meadowlarks give a hurried, excited “flight song” of short-spaced whistles and warbles.
