Description
Thousands of Snow Geese winter over at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico, and it is a beautiful sight to behold. In this image, a few hundred are taking off from one of the large ponds to head over to the corn fields.
Getting to observe huge flocks of Snow Geese descend from the sky, amid a cacophony of honking, is an amazing experience -- a little like standing inside a snow globe! These loud geese can cover the ground in a snowy blanket, since often there are thousands of them together. Among them, you might see a darker version —a color variant called a Blue Morph or a “Blue Goose.” Snow Geese are now among the most abundant waterfowl on the continent.
