Description
These two Barn Swallows were a couple, flitting around together, and were probably getting ready to start a family soon. In this instance, they were on the log, and a lot of interaction was going on, with the bird on the left flying up, getting closer to the one on the right, then backing off, then doing it again. I love to imagine the story behind it. Here's my version: The male, on the left wanted some "action" with the female. So here he is propositioning her, and saying "Come on, babe, let's do it!", and she, on the right, is responging, "Didn't we just do that 10 minutes ago? Can we give it a break already!?" Lol!
This photo required high ISO on my camera (ISO 5000) due to it being in the shade but with a lot of action, so it's been de-noised, which gives it the look you see.
A familiar little bird in rural areas and semi-open country, the Barn Swallow gracefully skims low over meadows, water and farmyards looking for insects to eat, or perches on wires. During the breeding season, Barn Swallows fly down to pick up mud and grass for nesting materials. Their mud nests are often tucked under the eaves of barns, stables, or bridges, or other structures. You can find Barn Swallows across most of North America, as well as Europe and Asia, wintering to southern Africa and South America.
