Description
Remember that song...? "Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it, let's do it, let's fall in love"! It's spring time, and this pair of Tree Swallows is making babies, along with many other birds at this time of year. I love their iridescent turquoise coloring!
Tree Swallows are a familiar sight in summer fields and wetlands across northern North America. Handsome aerialists, they chase after flying insects with acrobatic twists and turns, their steely blue-green feathers flashing in the sunlight. Tree Swallows must compete with other cavity-nesting birds, arriving early in spring to stake out territories such as tree cavities and nest boxes. Tree Swallows eat many berries, allowing them to survive through wintry spells when other insect-eaters might starve.
