Description
In the late afternoon, the wild mustangs start arriving at the water hole to get a much needed drink, to relax and socialize, and maybe take a bath. One band arrives at a time, some leave, and there is quite a bit of activity. This family had just arrived and was looking for its own spot on the pond where they could relax for a while. It was at that time in the evening when the golden light from the setting sun illuminates everything with a beautiful soft glow.
Wild Mustangs are free-roaming horses of the American west that were originally brought to the Americas by the Spanish. We think of Mustangs as wild horses, but because they are descended from once-domesticated horses, they are actually feral horses. This free-roaming horse population is managed and protected by the BLM, the Bureau of Land Management. There is some controversy surrounding the sharing of land and resources by the free-ranging mustangs with the livestock of the ranching industry. There is also dispute about the methods with which the federal government manages the wild horse numbers.
Photo taken on June 6th, 2018, in NW Colorado.

How lovely a picture - there is something about the fact that there are still wild horses in this ol' world that really is thrilling ! Super picture !
Judi Dressler replied:
Thanks, Catherine! And I agree. But it is sad that many horses need to be rounded up and sold into captivity...
