Description
I was just about done with taking images of some Wood Ducks, because they had swum away. But then I spotted this drake sitting and resting at the very end of a tiny island in the distance, with some tree branches hanging over, and it seemed like such a perfect image for the end of the shoot.
Uniquely beautiful, this duck of wooded ponds and river swamps has no close relatives, except for the Mandarin Duck of eastern Asia. The Wood Duck nests in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.
