This young American Kestrel was feasting on prey that one of his parents had caught for him; you can see a bit of blood on his beak and the remains of something in his talons. He and his siblings had fledged from their nest just a few days before, and were hanging out nearby, strengthening their flight skills and learning to hunt while their parents still fed them. I love his shining eyes, and how he's peering out at me from behind the tree.
