Our spiral notebooks are 6" x 8" in size and include 120 pages which are lined on both sides. The artwork is printed on the front cover which is made of thick paper stock, and the back cover is medium gray in color. The inside of the back cover includes a pocket for storing extra paper and pens.

I was impressed by how this little bird didn't seem the least bit bothered by the sharp thorns he was so close to! This little bird is a Pyrrhuloxia, related to the cardinal, and is sometimes referrred to as a "desert cardinal" because it prefers the dry country of the southwest. I photographed him while on a trip to Arizona, in beautiful early morning light, and was happy to hear his cheerful song!
The odd name "Pyrrhuloxia," formerly part of this bird's scientific name, combines the Latin term for the Bullfinch with a Greek reference to the bird's bill shape. This is a tough-as-nails songbird of hot deserts. The Pyrrhuloxia is similar to the Northern Cardinal in its song and behavior, and the two overlap in many desert areas. However, the Pyrrhuloxia is less sedentary and more social than southwestern Cardinals. During breeding season Pyrrhuloxias are fiercely and vocally territorial, but in the winter they forget their disputes and join together in large flocks.
