Yellow warblers are such a beautiful bright yellow, that when I spot one in a tree is is exciting! This little bird flitted from branch to branch and tree to tree every couple seconds, grabbing an insect snack along the way, but his main purpose was to sing, at every opportunity. He was either hoping to attract a female, or had already done so and was defending his territory.
The bright, sweet song of the Yellow Warbler is a familiar sound in streamside willows and woodland edges. This is one of our most widely distributed warblers, combining brilliant color and easy viewing. They nest from the Arctic Circle to Mexico, with closely related forms along tropical coastlines. Their open, cuplike nests are easy to find. The females and immatures aren’t as bright, and lack the male’s rich chestnut streaking, but their overall warm yellow tones, unmarked faces, and prominent black eyes help pick them out.

Congratulations! Your awesome work of art has been featured in the Awe Factor Group. The works I chose today were in honor of my mom. Tomorrow would have been her 77th birthday, and some of her favorite things were sunflowers, tea, and the color yellow. Odd happenings this weekend remind us she’s still here. I wish you light, love and laughter….those were her gifts to us. 💛
