Description
This male Double-crested Cormorant has just found the perfect stick for his sweetie, and is taking off from the water to fly back to the nest where he will give it to her. Every spring before the eggs are laid, the cormorants will try to find previously-built nests or else build new ones, and then will add sticks and twigs to improve it for themselves. The male brings them in and the female decides where to put them in the nest.
From Audubon's website: "This dark, long-bodied diving bird floats low in the water with its thin neck and bill raised; perches upright near water with wings half-spread to dry. The Double-crested (which rarely looks noticeably crested in the field) is the most generally distributed cormorant in North America, and the only one likely to be seen inland in most areas."

Beautifully captured Judi. My next date, I think I'll bring her a nice stick and see how far that gets me. :-) L/F

Haha, thank you, Craig! Well if your date lived in a nest, she might really appreciate it. How about flowers for her actual "nest"? :)
